week one:over

i've spent the last hour or two reading other people's blog. what does that tell you? yes,i'm bored.
the last five days from monday till friday had been real hectic. which i dont really mind. as it helps to pass the time and 16 hours of fasting didnt seem too long when you're busy. :D but now, i've got nothing much to do, my tummy growls and it's about four more hours till berbuka time..

anaesthetic attachment has been fantastic. a bit apprehensive at first as i have no idea what to do, but having doctors who are so keen to teach really made my day. and it felt so exhilarating when i managed to put a venflon in patient's vein for the first time and it actually works! hehe. and intubating my first patient! so cool ok! and after you get the hang of the technique, it wasnt so hard and i was actually pretty confident to put up another venflon and put LMAs&ETTs for few patients afterwards. and the patients that i met so far have great veins, which helps tremendously!

and oh, whenever you see doctors drawing up drugs from the bottles into the syringes..like me, you'll probably think,"ah,piece of cake".. two anaesthetic registrar asked me to help them do just that. and for the first try, i spilt about 2ml on the floor while drawing up anti-emetic for one patient. and when dr a.c asked me to inject morphine into one patient's venflon, i spilt 2ml of it as well. :-S so, lesson learnt:simple things like drawing up drugs need skills too ok!

i was in the O.R all day everyday from half 8 in the morning. watching surgery after surgery. and surprisingly, i did not, even once, felt lightheaded and thought that i was going to pass out! probably because i was focusing more on the vitals monitor but oh well, one good progress for me!:D but i still do not like the smell of burnt flesh whenever the surgeons do their work.

and oh, another highlight: i saw my first dextrocardia patient last tuesday! too bad she was in for just lap chole and not heart surgery. heh.

p.s: qama, how's the USMLE? and no, i havent get myself the iP just yet. probably wait till october to treat myself for my birthday. nak belikan pon saaangat dialu-alukan!;)
