doc,what do we do now?

i have inter-professional education simulation at the school of nursing this afternoon. it was a great learning experience, as we learn to work with the nurses for the first time. the room was made up to look/feel like the real ward, all equip with the necessary things. the dummy even has heart beat, breath sound.and they can do voice over,so it feels like we were talking to real patient.B-) basically, we were thrown(well, not really) into the room, and well... be a doctor. and oh my god, i was freaking out and didnt know what to do.:-S really. seeing the patient in distress makes me feel more flabbergasted.i felt like running out of the room! all structured examination is out of the window. main hentam je apa nak buat. i mean, we never really DO things from the beginning till the end. it's all been bits and pieces... like prescribing drugs and writing them on kardex, taking sample for labs and write the forms and all. yeah, we were taught on how to, but never really did all those things ourself. and the nurses were standing there, expecting being lead on what to do.. so all three of us were all like headless chicken running about. and if it was a real patient, i am pretty sure i have put that patient in hypoxic, hypovolaemic and in pain state. :-O good thing it was afterall, a simulation. but it was indeed a really good way of learning. and i wasnt as shock as i was at 1.00pm this afternoon.

and it's still, overwhelming to hear, whenever the nurses call you, doctor... instead of medical student. and whenever we go seeing patients in the ward as well. the doctor will introduce us,"here's my colleague/junior doctor shadowing me today..bla,bla,bla" and every single time, i scream in my head,"noo, i'm just a student. i know nothing!!how can i possibly be a doctor?"#-o
