vacation recap: italia

it's been two days since i left italy.and i miss it already.

arrived at about 8 o'clock in the evening. i vowed not to spend another night at any airport, but there i was, spending the night at milan's malpensa airport.

and again, i got like 20 minutes(the most) of sleep..while everybody else seemed able to sleep just fine. the original plan was to take bus to the train station. but as we have too much time that night, and seeing all the options, we thought we'd take the train instead to milan centrale. nak dijadikan cerita, we missed the train by 2 minutes and the next train was not till 930am.so,we reverted to the original plan. thank god, we didnt miss the train to venice. all coaches were full, we got no seat en route to venice.

oh well, whattodo.. it was christmas eve and everybody was rushing home. the journey took about 2 1/2 hours. then, it was another challenge of buying the bus ticket to our hotel. then, not knowing which bus stop should we get down.

after freshen up, we headed to venice. do a bit of sightseeing before it gets too dark. and took a gondola ride.

here's a secret: i am extremely afraid of water. so it was amazing i managed to go through the gondola ride.haha. but seriously, my legs were shaking so bad and my heart was pounding real hard:-SS.. i kept thinking of the worst: what if terbalik ke gondola tu,i might get drown and so and so. sheesh..
and even when i walked through the countless bridges, i walked in the middle and real fast.:

the next day, we toured the venice somemore. and to get to all the interesting places, you're required to take the waterbus. ooh my, i seriously could not live in venice.haha. and i still felt like i was on the boat when i went to sleep that night. ya know, the sensation of bouyancy when you're on a boat..

then off to rome, again by train. we were being extra careful in roma,as i've heard a lot of not so nice things about rome. the hotel was near the termini, which was handy enough. bumped into k.nini&hubby a few times. which was funny as we rarely bump into them here in belfast.
took the hip-hop(as we called it) bus.first stop was the colloseo, and 20 euro gone in mere 5 minutes. stupid fat gladiators! well, partly our fault for being so gullible. took the tour guide for the colloseo&forum roma. before this, i thought it was just colloseum there.it turned out to be a huge place filled with remnants from the ancient times.

and do you know that all the marbles that we often see on the ancient buildings are not always white? apparently back in the days, those building were full of colours.heh, that's what the gorgeous italian tour guide said anyway.

spent almost half a day at the colloseo&forum roma. then we hopped on & off to various places including the fontana di trevi (which was dissapointing as there were tooo many people around, hence no great pictures there), the vatican city, pantheon.
had some gelato eventhough it's freezing to a point my gloved fingers all felt numb.

the next day we hopped on the train to pisa and florence. we didnt toured the pisa itself, just went to the leaing tower of pisa. spent about an hour then took another train to florence.

then off to milano. put our bags in the hotel room and off we went to duomo di milano and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele; feasting the eyes to all the luxury things you can find. window shopping was all that could be afford.sadly.haha

i was a bit dissapointed with milan. as i thought it should be a vibrant city to suit the title of world capitals of design&fashion..

ooh, one thing i noticed, there were so many LV monogram bags of all sizes and shapes.*haih*
and making me green with envy! :-& but then again, there were so many counterfeit bags being sold on the street as well, and they were well made that it's hard to tell the difference.

idaman kalbu. :x
this one is definitely the original one, photo taken from the window display at the LV boutique in florence. and yes, i unashamedly admit that i'm one of the victims of consumerism.

and then, there were the gelatos. to-die-for, i tell you. the freezing weather didnt really stop us or other people from enjoying the spoon-licking good treat. and i can still remember the ferrero rocher flavour.=P~

and the coffee and ciocolato caldo pon sedap yg amat. but the italians unlike the americans, do not drink their coffee in big portions. i could not find any cafe selling coffee in big cups. sume comey2 je cawan die. tak puas minum!

the trip this time wasn't smooth sailing and i am now almost 500euros short,
but worth it.:D and i'll jump into any chance of going again.
